Today we really haven´t seen and experienced much… but we drove the longest distance of our trip: 654 miles. This was a drive with a total of 11 hours. In Gothenburg we went to the former „Pony Express Station“ … The Pony Express was a relay race and was organized as a postal delivery service for about a year (1860 – 1861). At that time it was the fastest postal service in North America. The nearly 1.850 mile long route started in St. Joseph, Missouri all the way to Sacramento, California. Approximately every 10 to 15 miles was a station, like the one here in Gothenburg. The postmen were on horseback. The work was dangerous, so mostly young, unattached men were employed, which should not older than 18 years and not heavier than 130 lbs. They were often orphans. One of the most famous riders was Buffalo Bill. He was 14 years old and the youngest rider. During our todays long ride we made a slightly longer stop to look around in a „small“ antique shop – only as small as a football field. All day long we drove eastwards to Chicago. The destination , however, was a suburb of Chicago (Plainfield), where Tom’s cousin Mark and his wife Jenny and their two children, Lilly and Jacob, live. They gave us a warm welcome, and Jacob offerd us his room to stay overnight. Sweet guy, isn´t he? 🙂 At this point we want to thank these lovely people very much for everything they did. 🙂 Tomorrow we will go to visit Lilly’s School of… she had told her class about us, and now the first graders are very excited to see us and question us what we have to report from Germany. I already can see it: We are getting famous! *laugh* So, now let´s go to bed, so we are ready for the „dwarfs“ … Good night to all out there and see you tomorrow! our best regards Tom and Heike 🙂 mileage: 8,130 miles

Tom & Heike, Nice to see you have arrived in Chicago. The „windy city“ is where Lisa and I met 20 years ago. If you have time to drive around, we used to live on the 47th floor of the 440 North Wabash building, it’s just one block off Michigan Avenue along the Chicago River. Great location to park and walk the „magnificent mile“. Uno’s Pizza is just 100 meters from our apartment and was our favorite Chicago pizza. You must try it….we think you will love it! safe travels. We would have liked to drive to this place… but there was so much traffic (35 Miles = 2 hours). So we decided, to get back to Mark´s and Jenny´s house. But we are always happy about your tipps, they are very helpful for us! Thank you so much, have a good time – Tom and Heike 🙂
